The main purpose of grounding is to bring the potential difference to zero. You can use any method for this. If you’re in a spacecraft, linking all your electronics to a sink will help achieve a common voltage as ground. In a spacecraft or a spaceship, this is done by linking all the electronics to the spacecraft/spaceship mainframe.
