In a power supply what will happen if the filter capacitor is shorted?

Answer: When the filter capacitor is shorted the primary fuse will blow. A shorted filter capacitor shorts out the load resistance. This effectively shorts the transformer secondary causing excessive secondary current. This will turn produces excessive primary current and the primary fuse will blow out.
