Yes, we can run 60 Hz transformer on 50 Hz system but the transformer may not work properly because it is designed for 60 Hz. When we operate a 60 Hz transformer on 60 Hz supply frequency then current will 44.16 ampere but when we operate the same 60 Hz transformer on 50 Hz supply frequency then current will 52.94 ampere. So this extra current may cause copper loss and heat production. So if we install an additional current limited device ( inductor or resistors ) in series with winding by which we can increase impedance to reduce this extra current then we can use a 60 Hz transformer on 50 hz supply.
